I am totally sweet and a little bit sassy, organized and observant, reliable, hard-working, and generous. I love spending time with people, especially the funny ones that get my wit. I am a mom of five and have an amazing husband and live in beautiful Heber City, Utah, with a life that is full of challenge, joy, love, tragedy, and triumph. My favorite things are Nutella, baking and cake decorating, flowers, cold nights with hot chocolate and hot nights with frozen hot chocolate, Steel Magnolias, antiques, comedy plays, flowers, newborns, cute clothes, ice skating, anything in miniature size, flowers, vintage dresses and heels, decorating and organizing, flowers, bubble baths, massages, I Love Lucy but my heart belongs to Bon Jovi, and flowers. I am also a Licensed Massage Therapist! Oh, did I mention that I love flowers? If I could make any dream of mine come true it would be to have a garden with an insane amount of flowers so I could go out and make a fresh bouquet every day to surprise someone with. I’m working toward that dream right now as we wrap up construction on our new house which will also have a childbirth/postpartum classroom, massage/bodywork spa, and a doula training center, with a giant flower garden!
I first heard the term doula when I was pregnant with my fourth but dismissed the option because it sounded like one more nurse in the room. Later, when I fully understood what a doula was, I really regretted not having one with my previous births, in fact, I was MAD! This option existed and I didn’t know, and it could have really changed how those births felt. After my personal birth experiences I decided that not only would I have a doula for baby five but I also wanted to be one. I wanted to help bring education, options, respect, rights, and validation to birthing women. And I didn’t want to stop there, with birth. I wanted to continue it into the postpartum phase and even before pregnancy and after postpartum; pretty much anytime someone needed the emotional, physical, and informational support that a doula could provide while they faced things that were new, hard, different, painful, and challenging. Doula all the things!! (We all need an in-laws doula, a car shopping doula, a potty training doula…amiright!?) I retired from a decade of running a successful preschool and started my new adventure, training as a doula while hiring the trainer to be there as my doula for my 5th birth which I decided to do at home. The birth was absolutely amazing and it solidified my desires to do this work for others, which also eventually led to me training new doulas as well!
I believe strongly in ongoing education and commit to continuously expand my knowledge base and skill level. I attend any workshop or continuing ed class I am able to. I have also served in multiple volunteer roles on the Utah Doula Association Board, including President Elect. I have experience with all types of clients in a variety of situations and know how to professionally handle unexpected outcomes or unique challenges including: VBAC/VBAMC, adoption, surrogacy, deployed spouse, single parent, multiples, teen parents, C-section, HG, mal-positioning, high risk, bed rest, NICU, home birth, birth center, and maternal bereavement. I have attended over 100 births throughout 9 different hospitals and 3 birth centers (and many homes) in Utah. I would love to meet with you today to discuss your needs! Are you ready to learn more?
